Legendary country singer Eddie Low has died, his daughter has confirmed in a touching statement.

Paying tribute to the musician, his daughter revealed her “talented” father passed away aged 81 after a battle with cancer. The New Zealand born legally blind crooner had a huge career spanning 60 years. Throughout his career, he released more than 20 albums.

In an emotional statement on Facebook, his daughter Maria wrote: “His music will live on forever. Eddie Low passed away peacefully at 7.45am Saturday September 2024, with loved ones at his side.”

She continued: “‘Born into poverty on 14 May 1943, Eddie’s life was marked by extraordinary resilience, determination, and talent. Eddie will be remembered as a beloved musician, a trailblazer and a source of inspiration for all who knew him.”

Thanks to Eddie’s upbeat country performances, he was dubbed “the voice in a million”. He was a regular performer across New Zealand, Australia and internationally over his lengthy career and also put on a show. He had been performing across New Zealand with his band The Highway Men, just months before he died.

His successful career was noted when he was awarded Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to music in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in 2006.

Following news of his passing, fans took to social media to write messages of condolence. One user wrote on Twitter/X: “I can’t believe my uncle just died. I only saw him not that long ago. Love you uncle Eddie. Hope you rest in peace in heaven your music will still carry on.”

A second added: “Sad news. Rest in Peace Eddie. Your music has been a blessing to many of us. Thank you,” while a third said: “Sad to hear of the death of Eddie Low, at 81, from cancer. Born blind as a result of German measles, Eddie carved out a hugely successful 60 year career in New Zealand music and will be much missed.”

Eddie is survived by his three children Taniya, Dayne and Maria. Sadly, his with and the mother of his kids, Kathleen, died in February 2019.
